North Star has appointed Gitte Gard Talmo as chief executive officer. She takes over from Matthew Gordon, who, after four years successfully spearheading the firm’s expansion from the conventional energy sector into renewables, has stepped down to pursue new opportunities.
Gitte joins from the publicly listed Eidesvik Offshore ASA, where she served as CEO for nearly three years. Her 22-year career at the Norwegian shipping company saw her take on progressively senior roles, gaining extensive experience along the way.
North Star has bases in Aberdeen, Lowestoft, Newcastle, and Hamburg, and employs a workforce of 1,400 seafarers and onshore personnel. The organisation has been supporting the energy sector for the past five decades and has a fleet of 42 ships and eight additional service operation vessels either delivered or under construction for the offshore wind market. On taking up the role, Gitte will be based in Aberdeen.
Tom Blades, chairman of the North Star advisory board commented “We are thrilled to have Gitte on board as CEO from December to lead the company’s next phase of development in becoming one of Europe’s leading marine energy infrastructure service providers. Her maritime experience, strategic vision and passion for innovation makes Gitte the ideal candidate as we continue our journey to becoming a leading marine energy infrastructure service provider in Europe.
“On behalf of the entire advisory board I would also like to express our thanks and gratitude to Matthew Gordon who has led North Star’s transition from the UK’s leading oil and gas focused emergency response and rescue vessel provider to a leading player in the offshore wind service industry. We wish Matt all the best and continued success in his next endeavours.”
